Everything you need to know about ringing a phone on silent, sharing location safely, pricing, and getting started.

Getting started

What is My Family Signal?
My Family Signal is a family safety app that lets a trusted person ring your phone even when it's on silent, see a paired device's last known location on a map, and get a warm "found it" back the moment you have your phone. It's built for couples, parents, adult children, and caregivers who want a simple way to reconnect with the people — and phones — they love.
How is it different from Apple Find My?
Apple Find My rings and locates the Apple devices you own. My Family Signal lets someone else — a trusted family member — ring your phone through silent and Do Not Disturb, and it works across both iPhone and Android. We put together a full side-by-side breakdown: My Family Signal vs Apple Find My →
Which devices does it work on?
My Family Signal is built for both iPhone/iPad and Android. We're currently rolling out in beta on iPhone via Apple's TestFlight, with Android following soon. If you were invited to test, see the beta tester instructions.
Do I need an Apple ID or a specific account to use it?
You create a My Family Signal account with a phone number and/or email — no Apple ID required to use the app itself. (To install the current iPhone beta you'll sign in to TestFlight with your Apple ID, which is Apple's standard for beta apps.)
Is it free?
Yes — the core ring-and-find experience for one paired person is free forever, with no credit card to start. Paid plans add more people, more devices, and extra features. See pricing below.

Ringing a phone

Does it really ring when the phone is on silent or Do Not Disturb?
Yes. My Family Signal uses the same trusted technology as an incoming phone call, so a paired ring comes through at full volume even on silent or Do Not Disturb. You always choose who is allowed to reach you this way.
Can just anyone ring my phone?
No. Only people you've paired with and approved can ring you, and you can pause or remove that permission at any time. Being reachable is entirely under your control.
What does the other person see when I ring them?
They get a clear, friendly incoming screen — not a scary alarm — showing who's trying to reach them. With one tap they can send a "found it" confirmation back so you know they're okay.
What is the "Found it" confirmation?
The moment your loved one has their phone in hand, they tap "Found it" and you get an instant, reassuring signal that all is well — no more wondering whether they're okay.
Can it flash the screen or make the phone vibrate?
Yes — screen flash and strong haptics help the signal get through for hard-of-hearing loved ones and noisy households. Screen flash is part of the Premium plan.

Finding a phone & location

Can I see where a paired phone is?
Yes. When location sharing is switched on, you can see a paired device's last known location on a clean, simple map — perfect for "where did I leave it?" and quiet reassurance.
Does location work if the phone is offline?
The last known location is available even after a phone goes offline, so you still have a helpful starting point. Extended last-known-location history is part of the Premium plan.
Can it help me find a phone lost inside the house?
Yes — a room-level "warmer / colder" guide helps you close in on a phone hiding under a cushion or between car seats. Room-level proximity is a Premium feature.
Can someone see my location without me knowing?
No. Location sharing is always mutual and always visible. Each person controls their own sharing, the people who can see you are always shown to you, and you can pause or turn it off at any time.

Privacy & safety

Do you sell my data?
Never. We do not sell your personal or location data to anyone, and we don't build advertising profiles. Your location is shared only with the people you choose. Read the full Privacy Policy.
Who can ring or locate me?
Only the contacts you've paired with and approved. You decide who's on your list, what they can see, and whether sharing is one-way or mutual.
Can I block someone?
Yes. You can remove or block a specific person at any time from your settings, which immediately stops them from ringing or locating you.
Is it safe for children and families?
My Family Signal is designed for use by adults and by family members set up by a parent or guardian, with privacy built in and sharing always opt-in. See our Child Safety page for details.
Are you GDPR and CCPA compliant?
Yes — we honour GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA/CPRA (California) rights, including access, export, and deletion. You can delete your account and data at any time from Settings → Account.

Setup & pairing

How do I add a family member?
Invite your partner, parent, child, or caregiver with a link or QR code. Setup for them is nearly one tap — pair once and you're connected.
How many people and devices can I connect?
The Free plan connects one paired person. Premium adds multiple devices, and the Family & Caregiver plan adds multiple family members plus a caregiver dashboard. See pricing.

Pricing & plans

What are the plans and prices?
Free — $0 forever: one paired person, ring on silent, basic location, and "found it" confirmations.
Premium — $2.99/month or $19.99/year: everything in Free plus multiple devices, room-level proximity, custom ring sounds & widget, and screen flash & haptics.
Family & Caregiver — $5.99/month or $39.99/year: everything in Premium plus multiple family members, a caregiver dashboard, geofencing & check-ins, and priority support.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — annual paid plans come with a 30-day free trial, and no credit card is needed to begin on the Free plan.
Does my plan control who can ring me?
No. Your plan decides who you can ring — never who can ring you. Being reachable is always free.

Beta testing (TestFlight)

How do I join the beta?
If you've been invited, you'll install Apple's TestFlight app and then tap our invite link to download the beta. Full step-by-step instructions are here: Beta tester instructions →
How do I send feedback about the beta?
Open TestFlight, select My Family Signal, and tap "Send Beta Feedback" — or email us anytime at hello@myfamilysignal.com.

Troubleshooting

A ring didn't play — what should I check?
Make sure the paired device has the app installed, notifications allowed, and an internet connection. If it still doesn't ring, send us the details at hello@myfamilysignal.com so we can look into it.
The beta link opened a web page instead of the app.
That page just walks you through installing TestFlight first. Install TestFlight, then tap the invite link again on your iPhone or iPad.
It says the beta isn't accepting new testers.
The tester spots may be full or the build may need a quick refresh. Let us know at hello@myfamilysignal.com and we'll sort it out.
